Setting up an AIS Connection

Hi Chris Franz,

Thank you for the excellent article from 2009, Setting up an AIS Connection.  I am trying to follow this article but I am unable to complete all of the setup.  So I'm not even to the point of getting errors.  I just simply do not understand what to do to complete several of the steps.  Here is my current status.  I you or someone could help me it would be wonderful.  I wan to share with you what I have done so that you know that I am trying:

1.  I have used the Advantage Configuration Utility to configure Internet Port 6263.

2.  I have setup the Router to send traffic for Port 6263 to my server.  The server has a static IP Address that is 10.1.10.200.

3.  I have configured the Windows Firewall on the server to allow TCP and UDP traffic on Port 6263 for both Inbound and Outbound connections.

4.  My database has a data dictionary.  All tables are bound tables.  The data dictionary is called hpdata.add

5.  I have used Advantage Data Architect to set the Security and Internet Access for the database.

I have set Security.User Access.Login Required to NO

I have set Security.Internet Access.Enabled to YES

I have set Security.Internet Access.Security Level to NO ENCRYPTION

6.  Because Security.User Access.Login Required is set to NO I have not setup any User Accounts.

7.  I want to use Advantage Data Architect (ADA) at the Remote location to connect to the database that is on the server.

8.  Configuring ADA and the ads.ini file is where I am failing.  I simply do not understand the concepts behind the DATABASES and DRIVES section of the ads.ini file.

9.  On the server computer my database is stored in c:\users\public\sirus\data\hpdata.add

10.  I have the public folder shared on the server.  The server name is SERVER-PC.  So the share on the server's network is \\SERVER-PC\users\public\sirus\data\hpdata.add

11.  Below is the ads.ini file that I have built so far.  I know that it is not correct because I simply do not understand the concept behind the DATABASES and DRIVES sections:

[DATABASES]

sirus=c:\users\public\sirus\data\hpdata.add;d

[DRIVES]

c:=\\SERVER-PC\Users\Public\hpOrion\Data

[SERVER-PC]

INTERNET_IP=68.53.XXX.XXX  (please note that the actual IP address is not being provided in this post)

INTERNET_PORT=6263

[SETTINGS]

USE_TCP_IP=1

[Sirus_info]

Username=adssys

TableType=adt

ServerType=internet

CommunicationType=default

LockingMode=proprietary

Collation=ansi

SecurityMode=ignorerights

DBFTableType=cdx

BlankPassword=no

DataDictionaryPassword=

TLSCertificate=

TLSCipherSuite=

TLSCommonName=

DataEncryptionType=default

FIPSMode=no

ADA created the whole [Sirus_info] section of the ads.ini file when I started ADA for the first time.

Chris, if you or some other kind soul could get me on track I would be very grateful.

Thank you,

CPGood
