I'm not sure there is enough information here.
Can you describe the setup a bit more?
Is is really SQL Server -> SQL Server2 -> ADS?
At which point is the failure? SQL Server -> SQL Server2 or SQL Server2 -> ADS?
You mentioned testing the server comes to a hault. Which server? SQL Server or ADS?
Are any error messages displayed?
Does ARC (Advantage Data Architect) connect ok?
Are there any errors in the Advantage error log at the time of the test?
SQL Server 2008 r2 (let us call it S1) have stored procedure for accessing ADS data base which is running on another SQL Server 2008 r2 (let us call it S2)
When trying to test 'linked server' connection on S1, the screen gets faded and after a few it says server is not running (on top of screen), have to cancel by task manager). Looks like do not even get connected to S2 or ADS I think.
There are no error in ads_err log
Not really sure.
I would suggest testing communications through Advantage Data Architect (V10 link here: Advantage Data Architect Release 10.1 for Windows 32-bit - Advantage Developer Zone )
I'm not 100% sure, but I think one of the changes from SQL Server 2005 - 2008 is the move from 32-bit to 64-bit. May check that you have installed the 64-bit drivers and they are registered correctly.

I think the drivers are OK because we use the same driver to connect (MSDASQL) to connect to other data servers and data bases without problem. I will take another look and see what I can find.

We have the problem that die ADS.EXE (latest Ver) stops working von an WIN 2008 server.
Ther is no way to stop the ADS in an normal way. Only by taskmgn is it possible.
After this some ADI files and replication databases are corrupt and it is much work to get an new start with the system.
In the error logs are only internal errors (9000).
Has somebody errors like this ?

Hi, my error. It's an win 2003 R2 x64 Service Pack 2 System. The ADS Version is 11.10.0.20.
Yes, everything is working fine. The System (without ADS) runs stable and nothing was changed before.
I've no Idea what happend. We could restart and the System runs about 2-3 hours, than hangs.
That was over 3 or 4 days with checking all databases and files. Actually the server runs about 4 days but we changed nothing. I don't know whats happend.
I can send you the Stamp File. The offical way is not possible, because there are some errors in our sap-system account data. Mrs. Boy is searching about this problem.
the date on the ACE32.LIB is 3-20-2015 and I installed ADS v10 because I was told xHarbour did not work with v11. Maybe I should try installing v11? Would you suggest that?
How do I determine which version the ADS is and which version I am using in xHarbour?
I can't tell you to much about xHarbour, because the client is not from ADS. But I guess, that your xHarbour client also use the ACE32.DLL. Please check, which version this file have.
To analyze any logs or request engineering support, we need a support incident.

I was able to connect finally when I installed v11 but the performance is exceedingly s-l-o-w !!. Apps run at 1/10 speed with ADS. Should be the other way round. They should run faster with ADS. Any suggestions?
May the performance issue is related to the communication layer or any network issues, so I would recommend to use an ADS.ini file with LAN_IP and LAN_PORT entries. In addition, you can try also to USE_TCP_IP=1 under the section [SETTINGS] also in the ADS.ini.
If the CIC changes or corrects my account, I could send a support incdent. We wait now about 2 weeks to get a checkin to the sap support system 
The CIC is currently in process to fix the issue for creating incidents.
In your current ADS issue, please try the latest version of ADS 11.10.0.22 and observe the behavior of the ADS service. If you get the issue again and the ADS creates a new dump file, let me know.
Changed ads_cfg.ini and added 3 lines as you suggested. Tried LAN_PORT=6262 and LAN_PORT=0 and made the matching configuration change in the ADS Configuration Utility. These changes made absolutely no difference. You mentioned an ads.ini file. Is the ads.ini file different from the ads_cfg.ini that I modified? from ads_cfg.ini: [Settings] ServiceName=Advantage USE_TCP_IP=1 LAN_IP=172.16.100.151 LAN_PORT=0
