Download of ADSFIPSModule.zip
Since last week I upgraded my Advantage Database Server to version 11.10.0.22 Before that I used for my development the 11.10.0.10 with FIPS.
To test if my software is FIPS complaint. However I cannot find the upgraded FIPS-compliant OpenSSL libraries version 0.9.8zb ADSFIPSModule.zip (libeay32.dll, ssleay32.dll and openssl.exe) for version 11.10.0.22
I downloaded the 51044883.zip file from
https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap%28bD1ubCZjPTAwMQ==%29/bc/bsp/spn/download_basket/main.htm?smp-webas=
SAP support site but this hold the old 11.10.0.11 version.
The include ADSFIPSModule.zip only holds the (libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll).
Openssl.exe is missing which is needed to create a self signed certificate.
On http://devzone.advantagedatabase.com/dz/content.aspx?key=31
The ADSFIPSModule.zip is not present.
When starting ADS Server 11.10.0.22 as a service with the FIPS modules libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll supported for 11.10.0.10.
It gives an 7165 error.
Where can I download the correct ADSFIPSModule.zip (libeay32.dll, ssleay32.dll and openssl.exe) for version 11.10.0.22?
Re: RAD Studio XE8 support
Hello Flavius,
For your request, please ask our ADS Sales Team directly here:
Re: Download of ADSFIPSModule.zip
Hello Steven,
To download your requested files direclty from SAP, please follow the description from the ADS Wiki page:
01 - Downloading ADS and generating a validation code - Enterprise Information Management - SCN Wiki
Re: Download of ADSFIPSModule.zip
Hello Hakan,
The version that you can download from that location is an old version and does not hold the Openssl.exe which is needed to generate compatible self signed FIPS certificates.
I am looking for the new OpenSSL libraries version 0.9.8zb with Openssl.exe
The licenses I have work on 11.10.0.22 so no need to generate new onces.
Can you make a new package for version 11.10.0.22 and make that available on
the mentioned location?
Re: Download of ADSFIPSModule.zip
Hello Steven,
I will send this request to the engineering to check and update the file asap.
Re: Download of ADSFIPSModule.zip
Hello Steven,
Looks like you reached a wrong link. Please follow the steps:
- Go to http://service.sap.com
- Click on “The SAP Support Portal” link
- Click the “Download Software” button
- Choose “Installations & Upgrades”
- Choose “A-Z Alphabetical List of my Products”
- Select letter “A”
- From the list, scroll down and select “SAP ADS”
- Select the link “SYBASE ADS 11.1”
- Select link “Support Packages and Patches”
- Select link “# OS independent” and get your product to download.
From your screenshot it looks like you didn't select the link given in step 9 correctly. Please do not select link "Installation" in step 9, but use the "Support Packages and Patches" link. Then download the second link (highlighted by yellow in the image attached).
This will give you a new set of ADS 11.10.0.22 installers, including a ADSFIPSModule.zip file.
This file contains only the libraries needed by ADS server. Openssl.exe is not included. It can be downloaded from the OpenSSL website.
Let us know if you see any other issues.
Re: Download of ADSFIPSModule.zip
With your guidelines I succeeded in downloading ADS111022_0-81000292 object.
This indeed holds the ADSFIPSModule.zip and the adswin_x86_64.exe for version 11.1 SP22
The ADS Server 11.1 SP10 with Client and OpenSSL FIPS module 29-nov-2010 Works!
The ADS Server 11.1 SP22 with Client and OpenSSL FIPS module 1-dec-2014 does not work!
Also it is not possible to generate the self signed certficate using current OpenSSL-1.0.2a
with the 0.9.8zb dlls. Here below the error it generates.
Any ideas on this?
Re: Download of ADSFIPSModule.zip
Do you use the OpenSSL 1.0.2a for generating the self signed certificate?
If yes, you should use the 0.9.8zb (or the latest version on 0.9.8, but not 1.0.2) OpenSSL tool for this.
Please give them a try and let me know about the result.
Longevity of ADS
Hi there!
I am a fan of Advantage Database Server. All of the Windows-based Delphi applications I work on for my company are built off of an ADS database, and have been for close to a decade. Recently, there's been a push at my company to consider other database options because we're worried about the longevity of Advantage Database Server due to the introduction of SAP HANA.
I would rather not have to rebuild everything on another database, and I quite like the ease with which I was able to learn how to use ADS, but I understand the concerns about longevity. So, I'm asking you guys:
Why would you continue using or recommend Advantage Database Server instead of, say, Microsoft SQL Server?
Any feedback is much appreciated!
Thanks very much,
K.M. Williams
Re: Longevity of ADS
I have been waiting for VS2013 support for over a year. I like advantage but for me I can't wait any longer.
I am in the process of converting all my apps to MS SQL.
Some of my customers will move, others won't but I want to be able to offer a database that is mainstream.
There has been little noise from SAP for quite a while.
Re: Longevity of ADS
Hi Marlene - SAP remains committed to the ADS product. We are targeting an 11.1 SP for the end of June 2015 timeframe. We are also targeting to release a new major version, v12, in the Sept-Dec 2015 timeframe. I am glad to see that you've been an ADS fan and hope that with SAP's ongoing commitment to the product, we can continue to deliver versions that meet your requirements.
Regards, Mike
slow access
In our company we use ADS 9.1 with harbor systems. On Saturday the server was migrated and also changed operating system: Windows Server 2008 was passed to Windows Server 2012 R2.
Before making the switch was tested and the systems worked smoothly, but only tested on the new server, no network connection.
Monday, starts happening a problem that does not find solution, we do not know if it has to do with ADS or server configuration. Every so often (not a given frequency) the system slows any option (for example looking for a customer, sales, etc) but only briefly. During that time, all machines (about 15) are hung.
The file ADS_ERR.ADT not report anything .. for example today there is only this:
56 20/05/2015 8:45:13 1892 7000 7020 login.c 6183 M04 192.168.1.50 9.10.0.9 Windows NT 6.2 TERMINAL-SERVER Username: M04
AuthUsername: OSUserLogin:terminal3 Address:192.168.1.50 TerminalAddress:0.0.0.0
but at that time it did not happen the problem
The network technician asked to write the time when that happens so you can check the system logs.
Can you think of an idea to start researching?
We wait for the release of ADS 12 for upgrade version. (We useadssince 2000with version5.4without any problems)
I appreciate the help you can give me.
Re: slow access
Hello Paola,
As I know, ADS 9.1 is not supported on Windows 2012 R2 and this could be the first problem.
If you have this issue only over the network, it could be, that you connect on the server over the IPC connection. For a test, disable the IPC connection in the registry and check the performance again. To disable the IPC connection, you will find a KBA in our SAP Knowledge Base. The link to our SAP Knowledge Base is available in our SAP ADS Wiki.
I guess the problem is related to a network issue, so I would recommend to use in the ADS.ini file following:
---
[Name of your Server machine]
LAN_IP= IP Address from your Server
LAN_PORT= i.e. 6262, which must be the same as you define in the Advantage Configuration Utility
[SETTINGS]
USE_TCP_IP=1
---
Please check, if at the time of the performance problem any application like virus scanner is scanning.
Also be sure to check the power settings for the Windows Server 2012 R2.
ADS.EXE maxing out CPU Usage at random times
I use Advantage Database Server with McKesson's Medisoft Practice Management Software for physicians. I recently started having issues with the ADS.EXE process maxing out or running very high and causing the Medisoft Application to lock up. It will run at a very high CPU usage from 10-45 minutes and then drop back down to normal. This is ADS 11.10.0.22 64bit on a Server 2008 r2 Datacenter (HyperV VM) with 12GB RAM and 4 processors. How can I figure out what is causing this random and sudden spike in CPU usage?
Re: Download of ADSFIPSModule.zip
For the generation of the self signed certficates I use the 0.9.8p-fips 16 Nov 2010 from Sybase.
At first openssl.exe was included with the ADSFIPSModule.zip
>Parag Mahadane wrote the following
This file contains only the libraries needed by ADS server.
Openssl.exe is not included. It can be downloaded from the OpenSSL website.
The current version of openssl.exe that I use is not compatible with the dlls supplied with ADSFIPSModule.zip so I still use the old version supplied by Sybase to generate the self signed certificates.
With this openssl and my .cnf I create the
- CLIENT certificate wudbuniv1-CLIENT-CERT.PEM
- SERVER public and private certificate wudbuniv1-SERVER-PUBL-PRIV-CERT.PEM
The ssleay32.dll and libeay32.dll have been copied in the path where ads.exe is installed.
I use Win7-64bit with
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable - 10.0.40219
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable - 10.0.40219
The certificate is placed at the root D:\
- Launch services.msc
- Click on Advantage Database Server (start manual) with the following
- starting parameters: "/TLSKeyFile D:\wudbuniv1-SERVER-PUBL-PRIV-CERT.pem /TLSKeyPassword <passphrase> /TLSCiphers AES256 /FIPS"
From the client I connect using AdsConnect101 using the following connection string
- TableType=ADT;
- ServerType=REMOTE;
- CommType=TLS;
- LockMode=PROPRIETARY;
- CharType=ANSI;
- SecurityMode=IGNORERIGHTS;
- Data Source=\\udbuniv1\drive_d\;
- TLSCertificate=D:\FIPS\wudbuniv1-CLIENT-CERT.pem;
- TLSCiphers=AES256-SHA;
- TLSCommonName=udbuniv1;
- EncryptionType=AES256;
- FIPS=1;
- TrimTrailingSpaces=FALSE;
With the previous version Advantage the above stuff all works!
Now after installing the new ADS-11.10.0.22 with the new OpenSSL dll's it does not work anymore and gives an fatal error with code 7165?
What am I missing out at?
- Are ssleay32.dll and libeay32.dll compiled with an older version of Visual C++ ?
- It would be really helpfull if OpenSSL.EXE is supplied using the same build as ssleay32.dll and libeay32.dll
- What does 7165 mean? Which is a SAP error.
- Has SAP tested the FIPS on a Win7 64-bit machine with the ssleay32.dll and libeay32.dll?
I have installed all Visual C++ version from 2005, 2008, 2010 but it makes no difference.
Re: ADS.EXE maxing out CPU Usage at random times
McKesson may be best to help you trouble shoot this issue. However, I'll give a suggestion.
If the application is primarily using SQL Statements you could try writing something to regularly call the procedure sp_GetSQLStatements to dump out which statements are running. Then investigate the ones that are running at the time of the freeze.
Another possibility to look at is using Query Logging to have hte server automatically log all queries (not just un-optimized ones) and see what queries may be running
Finally, it may sound wierd, but check the Windows OS (both on the VM and host) and check that the Power Plan is set to HIGH Performance. Also check the Bios for any settings related to power settings. Once set to High performance reboot the machine and test again.
Re: Download of ADSFIPSModule.zip
Here is the ADS help file for the 7165 error:
Can you check your Advantage error logs (ads_err.adt / ads_err.dbf) and see if there are any other errors logged with the 7165 at the same date/time and thread number? What are these errors?
